Shopping Cart Challenge
Please join the Middletown Kiwanis Club for our 3rd Annual Book Around Middletown
Shopping Cart Challenge to benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library! This
exciting event will take place on March 5th, 2022 - 2 to 5 p.m. The race will begin and
end at the Middletown City Building, with activities taking place at various downtown
businesses.
The Teams: Each team will consist of 5 members (must be over 18 years of age). The
cost to participate is $100 a team/ $20 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the Dolly
Parton Imagination Library! Please join the Middletown Kiwanis Club for our 2nd Annual
Book Around Middletown Shopping Cart Challenge.
The Challenge: Each 5-person team will be given a grocery cart, courtesy of Needler’s
Market to use throughout the event. Every group must visit as many stations as
possible along the route and complete the activity at each location. The team will also
decorate their cart with their chosen theme from a children’s book or St. Patricks
Day theme (teams supply their own decorations). Each group will have up to two
hours to complete the entire route and accumulate points for the various activities. At
5 p.m. final judging will begin of the team’s presentation of book theme, cart and
costumes.
The Judging and Prizes: Teams will be judged at the conclusion of the event, based
on the criteria below. Prizes will be awarded for:
● Best overall presentation of book theme (cart and costumes)
● Highest points for station activities
● This year a new category will be given for best St. Pattys Day theme
Online Sign Ups:
Team Captain will sign up the team and provide contact information for each teammate. Teams will need to arrive before 3PM to decorate carts and sign waivers.
Covid Safety Plan
-Teams of no more than 5 participants.
-We will provide hand sanitizer inside of everyone's carts and at the
registration table
-Masks will be mandatory for all teams to wear for the duration of the event.
-All staff and volunteers will wear masks and gloves the entire time, and
maintain a distance of 6 ft from each other and registrants.
-Any give-aways will be pre-packed in bags that can be picked up as teams
arrive.
-Teams will be spaced out in designated areas on the plaza for them to
decorate their carts and wait to be judged. As they arrive back to the plaza
to finish the event they will go back to these designated areas.
-When the teams are out participating in the challenges there will be a limit
of one team per challenge.
-All challenges will be outside on the sidewalks or in grassy/parking areas
to avoid gathering indoors.
