You Are A Runner
If you run, you are a runner.
There is a stigma around us. The pencil thin, heart rate monitor and spandex wearing, 6 minute mile, sponsored athlete you conjure up in your mind.
Is that what you see when you think of a runner?
Running is a unique sport. A sport almost anyone can do, at almost anytime of the day, and it's almost completely free...if you don't count shoes.
Runners come in all shapes and sizes, all paces and abilities. Go to your local running clubs and you will see people from every walk of life. Some trying to get healthier, some trying to break personal records, some trying to make new friends, and some just trying to escape for a while.
It can be intimidating to get caught up in all the gear, technology, and techniques. There is a lot of information out there and it can leave you with loads of questions and fears. "What shoes are best for me?" "What if I come in last place?" "I don't know my VO2 max." "What if I'm doing something wrong?"
It doesn't matter what shoes you are wearing.
It doesn't matter what pace you are running.
It doesn't matter if you stopped to walk, or if you walked most the way.
It doesn't matter what size you are.
You are a runner.
"You don’t need to run loads of races or have all the best kit to be a “runner”. All you need to do to be one of those, is run. Contrary to all the BS the magazines told us, a “runners body” isn’t just a pretty blonde model with legs up to her ears and a six pack, it’s literally ANY body belonging to someone that is running."- Em Clarkson.
So if you are feeling insecure about finding a running group, or joining in a race, or even just going outside or in a gym to run where others might see you. Just know, you are a runner because you are running, and this community is happy to have you!
-See you on the road!
